A possible solution would be to group the Society News together, followed by Other News. I’ve had a look at the widgets available to see if there is something that will provide the required functionality. I have installed a new widget “Category Posts” on the test website.

If you look at the test website http://s567818280.websitehome.co.uk// You will see under the logo a section called Society News and another section called Other News. The Society News has been configured to display 3 items before they drop off the sidebar and Other News is configured to display  17 items before they drop off the sidebar. These limits are easily changed.
